There is now just one month until the end of scheduled 0-series Kodama services on the San’yo Shinkansen. Intermediate (for which, read ‘minor’) stations on the line, such as Higashi-Hiroshima, are good places to see the trains, because there are fewer photographers than at major stations, and because the Kodama services often make quite lengthy [...]

After the withdrawal of the remaining 0-series Shinkansen on November 30th, a number of Kodama services will be taken over by 500-series Shinkansen displaced from Nozomi services as more N700-series trains are delivered. These Kodama services will be operated by 500-series trains shortened to 8 carriages (from the original 16).
